K-POP Fever Finale

K-Pop has become a trend recently. People have become so overwhelmed by all these idol groups and dance songs. I was caught up along this trend but then slowly I begin to feel bored. More and more groups are coming up...Most of the songs are repetitive with similar rhythm and meaningless lyrics...K-Pop need to have more than that in order to last as a trend. That is probably why I am particularly more interested in some artists or groups that aren't so popular yet having extraordinary great songs. Well, BigBang would be an exeption. They are popular but they actually have the quality to rule themselves out from other idols group. I can see differences in their songs and it is these differences that breakthrough the current K-Pop trend.

There are a lot of good songs and great talent which are definitely not well acknowledged and I think it is a pity because K-Pop would be so much more interesting. One of the songs in my top most list is WITHOUT A HEART by 8EIGHT. 8Eight is a trio group formed by leader Lee Hyun, female vocalist Joo Hee and rapper Baek Chan. They debut in 2007 after winning a tv program known as Survival which is similar to US American Idol. They have a lot of great songs but my favourite is WITHOUT A HEART. It talks about the pain of losing one's love, unable to express merely by tears. I love the MV too. It is starred by So Hee from Wonder Girls who played a vampire awaiting for her human lover who promised to return with a cure for her.

Another group to be mentioned is 4MEN. They are formed by 4 members before but currently only left with 3. They have lots of great songs, just search up and one will lead to another. One of them is U. They delivered the song beautifully with their great vocals. If you are a big fan of korean drama, then you would be familiar with one of their songs REASON which is one of the OST of SECRET GARDEN.

4MEN somehow reminds me of SG WANNABE, also a trio group with great vocals. The group recently lost one of it's member Kim Dong Hae who commited suicide few days ago. SG Wannabe too have many great songs and the one I am most familiar with would be REVERSE FATE which is an OST of the drama EAST OF EDEN. Of course they have other great songs too like TIMELESS and SIN & PUNISHMENT.

Enough with groups, K-Pop seems to lack solo artists but actually there are many of them which have great songs yet to discover. One of my favourite is HWA YO BI. She has an impressive voice, somehow like mariah carey. You would like to listen to her songs like BYE BYE BYE and TEARS. I also love her singing ENDLESS LOVE with PARK HYO SHIN, another talented solo singer.

GUMMY is another great solo singer that you should not miss out too. She has a very special deep, a little husky voice, giving her songs an extraordinary charm. I like her songs like SORRY which has a moody rhythm, slow but somehow attractive. Other songs like THERE IS NO LOVE and AS A MAN are great too.

I could list a whole lot more than these. I don't understand a word of some of these songs but great music definitely get across language and country barrier. There are still so many talents to be acknowledge but probably that's the characteristic of K-Pop, cute idols and dance songs for now. I'm not saying that it's bad but maybe it's time we look into different things and explore more great vocals and beautiful songs. I can see that K-POP fever is still ongoing but there is not much changes around. Let's just hope there will be surprises in the future.

K-POP Fever Episode 2

There are so many things that I think I should tell about BigBang’s songs. 1 episode won’t be able to tell you everything, there are still so many great songs that would definitely grab one’s attention.

A glance through their new songs in the latest mini album, they do posses BigBang’s style but still, there is something different from their old songs. For instance, their theme song TONIGHT which is my favourite so far. You can still find BigBang’s style of rhythm and the catchy rap. Somehow the song shows maturity when compared with their previous songs.

Another song which takes me by surprise is CAFE. It has a very special charm that I could not describe exactly by words. I did not favour this song when I first listened to it. Surprisingly, the melody stick to my head and I started to appreciate it more. G-Dragon composed this song, thinking about his experience of breaking up in a cafe. Maybe that’s why this song is special. The chorus itself is outstanding because it is delivered perfectly by G-Dragon’s falsetto. The high-pitched voice actually gave this song it’s charm.

LOVE SONG is an indifferent love song. It talks about a relationship coming to an end. This song does not have fancy rhythm like TONIGHT. It is a slow yet powerful song, I would say. It is a breakthrough for K-Pop because it is a great contrast to regular K-Pop dance songs. Even the music video is a great breakthrough  in K-Pop. It is in black and white and shows off stunning effects.

BigBang: Love Song

SOMEBODY TO LOVE and WHAT IS RIGHT are not my favourite but they are still great songs worth listening to. SOMEBODY TO LOVE has a nice choreography while WHAT IS RIGHT has the familiar rhythm of BigBang’s songs.

K-POP Fever Episode 1

Recently, I am having an overwhelming obsession towards a South Korea hip-hop group, BIGBANG

b70514d0556b6587a8ec9ae4

I didn’t know much about them before. I didn’t even know who are the members. They drew my attention, (to be precise), TaeYang drew my attention with his smiling eyes when I accidently came across a variety show guested by him. He performed one of his solo hits, WEDDING DRESS. I immediately fell for the song’s charismatic rhythm.

TaeYang: Wedding Dress

Then, the affection spread gradually. I found another TaeYang’s solo, I NEED A GIRL. Again, I just can’t help but to listen to the song over and over again. When I thought I was going to get bored with those songs, I found myself listening to other BigBang’s members solo songs and not to mention, their group songs of course.

GD & TOP : Baby Good Night

G-Dragon’s a talented song composer. SeungRi is funny(I don’t really like his solo songs though). Daesung has a great voice and active in variety shows. TOP has a deep sexy voice and his rap is catchy.

At first I thought that BigBang is a group that is no longer active since almost all the members went solo. But I realized I was wrong when they announced a comeback soon after that. The five members returned as a group with the latest 4th mini album. TONIGHT, the main song of the new album immediately capture my mind with its addictive beats and glamorous rap. My interest actually grew deeper when I knew that the whole album were composed and produced by the leader G-Dragon himself. I don’t know why but I just have this kind of feelings towards artists having talents like this. Somehow the songs will sound more emotionally attached to the singer himself when he actually wrote it.

BigBang: Tonight

Now, I must admit that I am still having their songs sticking in my head. Maybe someday I might get over this obsession but still they are great songs that deserve some appreciation.
